Systems Administrator Job Description

Systems administrators are responsible for maintaining IT operations throughout an organization. They install and upgrade new hardware and software, and monitor the systems for functionality and security. They deal with data backups and recovery, and ensure that the operating systems, servers, local networks and attached PCs all work properly.

Systems administrators pair with project teams and develop planning and initiation plans for system development. They maintain servers and software systems, and ensure that the directories, peripherals, services and storage meet key standards and operational requirements. They work with Windows and Linux-based systems, verifying the integrity and availability of the servers. Systems administrators are also responsible for monitoring systems, performing security checks for potential intrusions, and creating daily backups of essential files and information.
