A program manager oversees a variety of projects and tasks depending on the company that he/she works for. A program manager's job duties may include preparing a budget and meeting forecasting schedules for the projects that he/she are assigned to oversee. Program managers may also have human resource types of responsibilities such as recruiting, selecting and training other team members. They are also be responsible for planning the scope of projects and effectively communicating job expectations to other team members who are working with them. Program managers must also be able to monitor and enforce proper policies and procedures. A program manager may be responsible for implementing CRM protocols for customer programs, visit client businesses and conduct interviews when necessary to help identify the customer's specific program needs.

The qualifications for a program manager typically include a degree in business administration. Many companies prefer to hire someone with an MBA for this position. A program manager usually has at least six years of experience in a marketing-related program management job and has extensive knowledge of digital marketing practices. Program managers are also very familiar with Salesforce CRM software, and can work well both in the field or at the office. The ideal candidate for a program manager may vary from company to company, however, most companies are looking for someone who has a clear understanding of the driving forces behind customer behavior. They are able to successfully collect and analyze data on their customers, using both digital and real-life data.
