Database Administrator Job Description

Database Administrators (DBAs) are IT professionals who specialize in working with databases. They use software in organizing large amounts of data, arranging them into meaningful patterns for easier access. Depending on their position, DBAs may also be involved in the design, planning and development of a database. Other duties include data migration, troubleshooting, creating backups and setting user access.

DBAs sometimes work in teams alongside other IT professionals, including security engineers, network specialists and data analysts. They may be required to make updates and modifications to existing database structures as well as merging older database into new options. Because DBAs play such an integral role in most companies, they often work outside regular hours, including working over the weekend.
