A Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) must know the disciplines of systems engineering and software engineering. They are responsible for building and running large-scale, fault tolerant systems. Site Reliability Engineers generally work on whole lifecycle services to improve or engage them. SREs also perform support services like system design consulting or they may develop software platforms and frameworks before they go live. Site Reliability Engineers may scale systems using automated mechanisms.
Applicants for a Site Reliability Engineer position should have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. They will need to know coding and have knowledge of computer languages such as C, C++, Go, Peryl, Ruby and Python. SREs should also be able to debug and optimize code, analyze and troubleshoot various systems and automate routine tasks.
