Site Reliability Engineers are in a highly detailed and technical field that is in a lot of demand across the country. They are responsible for designing and maintaining large-scale, fault-tolerant systems that operate with a minimum amount of downtime. In terms of education, Site Reliability Engineers must possess an undergraduate degree in computer sciences or a similarly related field. There also expected to be fluent in industry-standard languages such as C, C++, Java and Ruby.
Both a creative and analytical mind is required to be successful in this position as these traits are vital in every aspect from design to operation to refinement of these systems. Also, large amounts of data will need to be collected interpreted on a constant basis in order that problem areas can be identified and fixed. Strong communication and documentation skills are also a must for one to be successful in this position.
