Get to Know Srilaya Yallapragada, Senior Software Engineer

Thanks for joining us! Let’s talk about your career journey first.

I have been with Hired for four years now (close to five!). In my role, I specialize in full-stack engineering. After completing my Bachelor’s in Computer Science and working in the industry for 6 years, I had the itch to learn more. That led me to do my Master’s in Information Systems with a focus in web development at Northeastern University. I moved to New York for my first job after my Master’s degree. An amazing recruiter from Vettery reached out to me and I joined the team which is now Hired.

When it comes to working at Hired, what’s your favorite part?

My favorite part has always been the work culture. I love the amazing people I work with and all the OTOD spirit. #OneTeamOneDream

I also love how I get to solve problems that impact others. The fact that we help people find jobs is so rewarding.

What has been your favorite project at Hired?

Throughout the years I’ve found that there is always something new to try with every project we work on. Each project I get to be a part of becomes my favorite. In the one I’m a part of right now, we are working to improve the sign-up process for employers.

How have you advanced professionally since joining our team?

I began as a Software Engineer II and advanced to my current role as a Senior Software Engineer. I have worked with so many smart and talented engineers. They have been instrumental to my growth and offered me plenty of tips and tricks for solving various software engineering problems.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

I feel that things always keep changing. When you are feeling stuck, there is always a solution. Keep thinking about the problem from different angles and eventually, you will figure it out. Never give up too soon. That’s advice I always tell myself.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, you can find me staying active mostly. I enjoy going to the gym, swimming, hiking, and running. But when I am sitting still, I love to do my own nails!

What advice would you give to someone interested in Software Engineering?

If they don’t have a Software Engineering background, a bootcamp is a great way to learn coding and have the opportunity to get a job after. In general, just be curious. That has helped me to stay motivated to learn new things, especially during a transition into a new job or role.

What was one of your takeaways or favorite memories of the One Team, One Dream Hired offsite?

The first thought that comes to mind is how much I miss the office and being around my coworkers. I am blessed to be a part of such an amazing company that goes above and beyond to bring us together. All the team-building events were a great way of meeting people I didn’t have a chance to work with before. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect and I look forward to our next company offsite later this year!
