Austin is a liberal and diverse city in the heart of Texas. The culture embraces hipsters and hippies with sweet Southern hospitality. Austin is temperate throughout most of the year. Public transportation is available, but biking trails are also available for the health conscious commuter. Downtown Austin offers districts with hippies, comedy houses, wallet-friendly restaurants and a close proximity to Lady Bird Lake for weekend outings. North Burnet is an affluent area that is more serious but remains family friendly. It is perhaps best known for the giant outdoor shopping center called The Domain. West University is an affordable neighborhood that is close to UT Austin. It is filled with shops and small restaurants including the famous Torchy’s Tacos and Big Bites sandwich shop. There is plenty of activity in the neighborhood and lots of ways to work off any extra calories you may take in at the restaurants.
