Hired CEO Shares Summer 2023 Hiring Trends: Tech Hiring Thawing

With continued inflationary pressures, return-to-office plans, and rapidly evolving skill sets, we’re here to help recruiting and talent acquisition teams stay up to speed on the latest trends in tech hiring. Because we work with a variety of companies across the size and industry spectrum, we’re sharing insights as we head into peak hiring season before year-end.

Signs the ‘Tech Winter’ is Thawing

The consistent upswing in interview requests and placements over the last six weeks offers a hopeful indication of the turning tides. We see big opportunities for proactive teams as we enter the crunch between Labor Day and the end of the year to backfill key roles and accelerate 2024 target hires.

Several companies are revisiting Hired after wading through inbound applications, on the hunt for elusive niche roles, especially for those requiring more experience or management skills.

We’ve curated even higher candidate volumes for tough-to-fill tech positions. There’s been a huge surge just in the last two weeks! This is evident in both candidate demand and hiring managers coming back as they recommit budgets through the end of the year and 2024.

We’ve seen big week-over-week gains in new candidates for specialized roles such as Cybersecurity, Machine Learning, and Cloud Engineers. We expect competition for these roles to continue to increase over the coming months.

Quick tip: Hiring? There’s less competition for talent in Atlanta, San Diego, Tampa, and Los Angeles, right now (compared to the usual top tech hubs).

Renewed Focus on Global Hiring & Smaller Market Strategies

As companies are actively optimizing costs, we’ve seen greater interest in lower-cost-of-living markets for remote, hybrid, or in-office roles. Lots of tech workers have chosen to relocate in the last few years, creating opportunities for employers in new US markets, such as Houston, Philadelphia, and Phoenix.

From a global perspective, we’re seeing high demand and high-caliber candidates coming from regions such as India, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, Germany, France, and Poland. As we source this talent, we also see an average of 70+% interview request acceptance rates from them.

Tech Stack Realignment

Over the slower summer months, we’ve seen internal hiring teams use this opportunity to reset and maximize efficiency in hiring stacks. At Hired, we’re ready to support employers in building the ideal Talent Acquisition stack. We believe in accelerating efficient hiring while delivering a great, connected candidate experience.

For instance, with ATS-integrated companies averaging a 46% better placement rate than non-integrated companies, it’s been a top priority for us to continue expanding our ecosystem of partners

In the last few months, we’ve added new integrations with Ashby, Teamtailor, and JazzHR. Now employers can both pull open roles directly into Hired and push candidates into their ATS. It just takes a few minutes to get set up here. Account Managers are ready to assist as needed.

Editor’s Note: Employers have the ability to integrate Hired with ATS partners such as Lever, Greenhouse, Workable, and Workday as well. (Click here to learn more about all of our preferred partners.)
