Data Administrators (also known as DBAs) work as the custodians of digital data. Using specialized applications, they manage and organize large amounts of information. Database Administrators are also responsible for performing periodic backups, upgrading systems and setting user access and privileges. Almost every Database Administrator works full-time. They typically have a degree in computer science, information technology or a related field. Depending on the size of the company, DBAs may work alongside other IT professionals, such as data analysts, software engineers and network engineers. With more small and medium companies making the transition to cloud services, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 10 percent growth for DBA job opportunities.
