Search Engineers need at a minimum a four-year undergraduate degree in computer science. However, many times companies will require a graduate degree in computer science as well as several years of relevant experience in the industry. One should have plenty of hands-on experience with industry-standard languages such as Java, Python and PHP, as well as experience with big data processing with Hadoop and Spark. Of course, strong skills in databases are also a must, and they need to be able to stay on top of emerging technologies and techniques.
