The Greater Seattle region is one of the fastest growing areas in the nation. Its population has grown 20 percent from 2010 to 2018. This has led to increases in Fortune 500 companies calling it home - rising from just 7 to more than 30, including Microsoft, Amazon, Costco, Starbucks, Paccar and Nordstrom. Other large companies with several employees include Postmates, BCG Digital Ventures and SpaceX. This growth has resulted in roughly 220,000 new jobs in the past decade. The waterfront redevelopment project, which is slated to begin with $688 million to be invested, along with several other signs of strong growth make Seattle a place of interest for startups and skilled talent.

A big draw to this city is the natural beauty of it, with both water and mountains to be enjoyed. Contrary to the belief that it is always raining in Seattle, it actually gets less rain than other major cities, including Miami, Boston, Philadelphia and New York City. In fact, outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and watersports are among the most common recreational choices. The overall atmosphere of Seattle is laid back and calm, which is a welcome respite for those coming from more high-stress environments. As for cuisine, fresh seafood is everywhere, including being tossed around by fishmongers at the Pike Place Market which also has a bounty of fresh ingredients for making 5-star meals at home, including the ever-popular geoduck. With so much seafood, sushi is practically a mandatory institution. The farm-to-table (and sea-to-table) movement is well embraced in Seattle.
