Backend Engineering deals with the data access layer of a piece of software and sometimes the physical hardware like a server. Backend Engineers are commonly asked to create automated testing frameworks and will write them in a scripting language such as Python, Perl, Ruby, or Node.js. They are also usually in charge of the database administration which includes security and authentication through the software being used. Backup methods and backup software will usually be handled by the Backend Engineer as will any data transformation tasks that may be required in order for backup to occur.
