Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineers have a rewarding and challenging career that is in high demand throughout the country with many different industries. Primarily, they monitor large computer networks and servers in order to spot problems from a central location. While doing this, they need to constantly analyze data and perform real-time troubleshooting before taking the appropriate response to an incident. Throughout the day, NOC Engineers will use a variety of system tools in order to evaluate hardware, software and environmental concerns. Once these concerns are identified, NOC Engineers will track carefully and document all aspects as well as whatever resolutions are being implemented. Because of this, NOC Engineers need to have strong documentation and communication skills, as well as enjoy problem solving in environments that can at times have a lot of pressure. In terms of education, a four-year degree in computer science is a must, and working with large servers and network hardware is a plus.
