Structured Query Language (SQL) is a domain-specific language used in manipulating data stored in a relational database management system (RDMS). Introduced during the 1970s, it’s evolved into one of the major standards for querying databases, partly because of its ease of use and portability. It is used in modifying database tables, adding and removing rows of data as well as retrieving information.
Most data-centric jobs require that candidates for the position have good SQL skills. SQL is regularly used by data engineers, data analysts and database administrators. Other positions that require SQL include working as a business intelligence analyst, data warehouse engineer or database architect.
