Engineering Managers work in a range of industries, including manufacturing and information technology. In addition to several years of experience, good managers are effective communicators, have good critical skills and are able to work under pressure. Most engineers work an average of 50 hours a week in offices or at worksites.
Chicago’s economy is serviced by a fine balance of industries. Manufacturing, publishing, printing and food processing all play important roles in the city’s economy. Most of the financial institutions are located within The Loop—the city’s central business district, which combined with downtown Chicago, ranks as the second largest commercial business district in the U.S. Chicago is also a major financial center with five major exchanges, including the Chicago Stock Exchange (CHX).
Often described as the birthplace of gospel music, house music and urban blues, Chicago hosts music festivals through most of the year. The city boasts an effective public transit system that links most of the major neighborhoods. Residents are also served by the O’Hare International Airport, the second busiest airport in the world.
