Overview

We are expanding our Enterprise Software 'Center of Expertise' in downtown Chicago by hiring key leaders including the Director, Product Development, Enterprise Software Engineering. Reporting to the VP/GM, Enterprise Software, the role leads our Software-as-a-Service and Data-as-a-Service product development software engineering activities and develops our Savanna® service delivery platform for use across the company.

We strive to transform workflows in retail, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, and field services by leveraging a 'system-of-reality' that we are building for enterprises, their workers, and customers using the Internet of Things (IOT), data services, blockchain, intelligent edge technologies, and cloud native services from AWS, Azure, Google, and ARM.

Responsibilities

* Build and deliver software and data services products needed for the physical-to-digital, systems-of-reality transformation in retail, healthcare, transportation, logistics, manufacturing and field services that manage Zebra's core devices, provide innovative data services, and power Zebra's systems-of-reality solutions such as SmartLens® in Retail and SmartPack® in T&L
* Build and lead a team of software engineering managers, software engineers, systems architects, and advanced technologists that together with product management, data experts, app designers, and program managers design, build, release, and maintain a portfolio of data services products, enterprise mobile apps, and the Savanna® data platform. Drive cloud-based product efforts across Zebra business units.
* Demonstrate technical leadership by continually leveraging advanced solutions, innovations, and 3rd party capabilities in Zebra platform, platform components, and products
* Develop and establish scalable software development, platform engineering, and Innersourcing continuously deployable methods to ensure effective and optimized product development teams that deliver highly available real-time systems
* Provide technical leadership for Zebra's software and data services as required for executive board reviews, customer executive briefings, ISV/partner development, strategic business development, M&A activity, and customer sales calls.
* Navigate complex regulatory, legal, and intellectual property environments involving workers, workflows, end users, and customers using advance surveillance technologies, deep learning, and autonomous systems
* Evangelize Zebra's technical thought leadership in industry conferences, technical fora, and meet-ups
* Leverage near-shoring and offshoring as required
* Manage and negotiate with suppliers, strategic partners, and internal customers as needed

Qualifications

* 2 to 5 years leading software engineering managers including proven success inspiring a diverse team and transforming legacy product approaches across Business Units.
* Successful track record launching software-as-a-service and data-as-a-service products for enterprises; retail, T&L, healthcare, manufacturing, and field service experience is a plus
* Proven success building and delivering award winning enterprise mobile apps built upon a data-oriented architecture
* Experience with advanced data technologies and capabilities such as data science, machine learning, blockchain, API management, and cloud native platform services that process in the cloud, on-premise, and autonomously on the edge
* Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills. Must be able to code in prevailing technologies including Java, Spark, Spring, Python, SQL including hands-on expertise with cloud native solutions from AWS, Azure, and Google. Proven abilities delivering CI/CD development methodologies. Experience with native Google PaaS and Kubernetes a plus.
* Willingness to build a high performing engineering team in Downtown Chicago
* Bachelor degree in Engineering or Science.
* Extensive travel required to support a global product and solutions organization
