Staff Engineer, Front-End Performance Minted

Job Description

Minted is looking for a Front-End Engineer to join our newly-formed Latency Engineering team. Latency Engineering provides a central resource for managing site performance across the entire organization. If you join this team, you will be leading projects to improve the performance of Minted's software application stack.

You will:

* Reduce apparent site latency for the end user
* Increase SEO rankings by providing a faster site for search engine indexing
* Improve scalability to manage site speed, accounting for geographic/seasonal differences
* Hold the line on site performance during development and release cycles
* Determine the critical site performance metrics that impact user satisfaction
* Engage with application teams during project planning, providing analysis and guidance to help teams achieve latency targets
* Propose and prototype library optimizations used by engineering teams across the company
* Research, architect, build and operationalize performance gates in our CI/CD system

You are:

* Obsessive about creating beautiful responsive web experiences
* Up to speed with the latest web technologies and industry best practices
* Highly collaborative in working style and an effective communicator
* Able to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
* Not afraid of getting into the weeds and doing the work yourself, if needed

You have:

* 6+ years professional experience as a software developer (3+ years front-end)
* Deep understanding of how to create high performance and highly accessible UXs
* Strong programming skills in JavaScript on both the frontend and backend
* Experience with a modern UI/application framework (React, Ember, Angular)
* Experience designing scalable web applications and predicting scope and risks
* Passion for simplicity, code craftsmanship, and design
* A healthy appetite for disruptive innovation
* BS or equivalent experience

Bonus:

* Experience in tuning latency for bounce rate and SEO purposes
* Experience with Node.js, React.js, and Redux
* Experience with Linux performance tools (perf analysis)
* Experience with Python, Java
* Experience with TensorFlow, Caffe2, or PyTorch
* Stream processing system experience like Spark Streaming, Cloud Dataflow, Apache Flink, Apache Beam
