Description:

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will impact the future of space flight as the System Software Architect for the New Glenn launch system. You will be responsible for ensuring the overall system architecture and software development processes will lead to the successful on-time delivery of critical flight and ground software. Your extensive experience will allow you to understand the broad scope of this complex software development effort, while you also guide the fine details that make this reusable system robust and reliable. The position requires strong collaboration within the New Glenn business unit, all New Glenn Elements, and across the company, as we seek out optimal system software solutions that support a variety of users. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, managerial responsibility and a passion for the highest technical standards. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight

Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with program and company leadership to define and develop top level software requirements, architectures and designs
* Facilitate trade space decisions and guide teams to solutions for flight and ground software architectures, layers, components, and applications
* Develop processes and tools to prove out architecture/design concepts and quantify technical risks
* As a member of the Systems Engineering Organization, you will have responsibility for the broader system context including system safety and will negotiate with the New Glenn stakeholders and product owners to balance risks, project budget, and schedule
* As the system software technical subject matter expert, on a daily basis you will provide engineering leadership to coordinate design, analysis, and system engineering process, throughout development, verification, delivery and operation
* As the technical authority for the launch system software, your strategic vision and leadership will be critical as you provide oversight for all aspects of the software processes throughout the development lifecycle
* Day to day team management and development including hiring and performance evaluation

Qualifications:

* MS or higher in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related engineering with 10+ years of design experience
* Strong software development skills in real-time systems, particularly in C/C++ and controls software written in C/C++/Simulink
* Experience in full lifecycle software development of real-time systems, including system design and analysis, requirement capture and development, software implementation and verification, system integration, qualification, and releasing
* Experience designing, deploying and supporting one or more complete flight control systems or systems of similar complexity
* Experience in build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, deployment of software
* Experience managing project requirements, priorities, scope, and reporting
* Highly organized team player with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness from their previous assignments
* Experience in definition of integrated software environments
* Experience with software development in mission and safety-critical environments, such as DO-178 compliance
* Experience with fault-tolerant design and fault-tolerant communications (possibly required)
* Familiarity with Guidance, Navigation and Control software integration in an embedded system, and familiarity with flight sensors and actuators
* Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

* Leadership experience in an aerospace R&D environment
* Demonstrated development and maturation of a team
* Familiarity with Liquid Propellant Rocket Systems
