Hardware Engineers research, design, deploy and test computer hardware and systems for use in both computers and non-computer devices. These engineers not only develop and test new hardware devices, but also ensure that they can function with existing systems and update the systems as needed. Hardware Engineers also oversee the production process for computer hardware and makes sure it meets stated specifications, budget and is produced in the required timeframe. It is a collaborative role, as Hardware Engineers often liaise with software developers, managers and stakeholders during the hardware development and testing stages. It is a career that is likely to continue to grow, as hardware components are in demand for both computer devices like laptops, smart TVs and smartphones, as well as other common instruments, like vehicles and medical devices. Hardware Engineers often have a degree in computer engineering, computer science or electrical engineering and should possess business savvy, good communication skills, analytical prowess and an aptitude for problem solving.
