Requisition Number: 30565 Job Title: PROGRAMMER/ANALYST III Working Title: Systems Engineer Salary: $5,234 - $10,358 monthly Job Type: Career Department Name: 4100-ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION SYSTEMS Department Website URL: www.it.ucla.edu Job Summary Statement: As a member of the Identity & Access Management team, the System Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, configuration, performance monitoring, and optimization of identity and access management systems and applications used across the campus enterprise. General responsibilities include project planning, ongoing systems administration for supported systems, servers and related applications, system security, process automation, technical support and incident response. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will collaborate to author technical documentation for complex systems including system configuration standards, technical functionality, and automation routines; will also conduct research and contribute to continuous improvement activities by recommending state of the art methods and tools that improve solution delivery. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:00 pm Qualifications for Position

Minimum of three years professional experience as a Systems Engineer or Administrator managing Windows and Unix/Linux based systems and networks; proficient with installation, configuration and administration of server operating systems, associated devices and infrastructure.

Possess technical and analytical skills to ensure high quality systems performance, diagnose and resolve routine technical issues, incidents or problems.

Demonstrated ability to independently develop and maintain systems automation scripts using programming languages such as PHP, Python, Perl, TCL, PowerShell, or Shell.

Experience performing thorough application and systems testing; able to develop and execute complete test plans that ensure appropriate system behavior and functionality.
Required
Working knowledge of networking technologies including IP networking, routers, and DNS operations.
Required
Skilled with common information systems security practices, policy administration, and user rights/access controls.
Required
Verbal and written communications skills sufficient to clearly convey technical information to users of all backgrounds and levels; ability to use Standard English grammar and punctuation.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members and clients.

Ability to prioritize task and skill in estimating time and effort required for technical tasks and projects.

Ability to prepare documents that are clearly written, well organized, well structured, accurate, complete, cover all relevant issues, and are professional in appearance.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems (or similar) OR equivalent relevant professional experience.

Working knowledge of web servers such as IIS and Apache.

Working knowledge of encryption implementations of http, ftp, ssh, file encryption.

Exposure to formal software version control and build management processes - experience in related tools such as Subversion, Ant, Maven, git, etc.

General knowledge of Java application server platforms such as Tomcat, and Web logic.

General knowledge of directory services like LDAP and Active Directory.

General knowledge of RDBMS concepts.

Working knowledge with complex multi-tiered (web, application and database) systems.
