Digital Products and Analytics

This Digital Products and Analytics department consists of merchandising, digital marketing/personalization, data insights and optimization, visualization, UX digital products, data analytics, and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

As a member of the Digital Products team, you are responsible for enabling United's customer facing capabilities across all stages of the customer journey. The Digital Products team defines United's digital product strategy and provides the leadership to execute on that strategy as part of a broader, cross-functional team. As Manager, UX Design, you will help grow the UX design practice and mentor and develop team members. This role will also have direct responsibility over our growing design system.

Working with the UX leadership team, this role has direct responsibility for the overall growth, maintenance and adoption of the United design system including:

* Coordinating work with 3rd party vendors and maintaining those relationships; serving as a collaborator and approver to any vendor contributions to the design system


* Establishing and enforcing processes to ensure design system use with Agile product teams


* Maintaining the design system roadmap; communicating design system priorities to stakeholders and adjusting roadmap priorities as needs change


* Verifying and improving upon designs submitted to the system by UX designers


* Partnering with development teams to ensure shared ownership of design components as they are developed


* Anticipate design system platform growth, including evolution of styles, patterns and components.


* Ensure digital customer touch points are consistent with United's user experience and brand standards


* Develop intuitive, usable, and engaging designs


* Communicate and champion the design system with key partners to build awareness and ensure the design system grows to be the source of truth for all styles, patterns and components across our digital channels


* Along with the rest of the design team, serve as an advisor on best practices to other UX designers, 3rd party vendors and other internal partners


* Collaborate with cross-functional teams as well as the broader UX Community and business partners throughout the design process


* Advocate for the customer perspective during the product development process


* Actively engage, develop, mentor, and coach a team of UX design professionals



Required

* BA/BS or equivalent proven work experience


* Strong portfolio of work


* Good understanding of front-end web technologies


* Strong ability to articulate design decisions and respond quickly to business needs


* Proven ability to set the design direction for projects and to collaborate with other designers


* Advanced understanding of user-centered design methods and best practices


* Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks in a fast-paced atmosphere with minimal supervision


* Experience working with cross functional teams within large, complex, corporate environments


* Demonstrated ability to document work in a very thorough, clean and concise way using industry standard tools, specifically Sketch and Axure


* High production values/strong quality assurance


* Must have previous proven success in the e-commerce space


* Experience across multiple touch points in a digital, customer-facing environment


* At least 5+ years' experience working in UX, Product Design or Visual Design


* 2+ years' experience directly or indirectly supervising other designers


* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship


* Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification


* Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position



Preferred

* Previous experience working on an internal design system


* Understanding of accessibility requirements and best practices


* Experience presenting and articulating work to team members, peers and clients


* Airline and travel related experience
