Nonprofit jobs cover a wide range of careers within a multitude of nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit organizations are service oriented and serve the public through the accomplishment of their specific mission; depending on what that mission entails, jobs can vary to a great extent. There are however many jobs that are common to most nonprofits. These jobs include fundraisers, event planners and organizational managers. Even though the organization may be nonprofit in nature, accountants, IT specialists, administration specialists and most other job categories found in for-profit organizations are also found within nonprofits.

In other words, individuals with multiple skills like management, office work and fundraising are in high demand. Grants are an important source of operating income for many nonprofit organizations. Applying for grants is a specialty unto itself; applying for grants from state, federal and charitable institutions is a job found mainly in the nonprofit industry. There are many educational opportunities for those wishing to enter the nonprofit industry, including colleges and trade schools. Another way to get the experience needed to work in the nonprofit world is by volunteering. Volunteers make up a portion of those working with nonprofits and volunteerism is a logical step in gaining the experience necessary to work into a paying position in a nonprofit where the mission is of personal interest.
