Data Scientist Job Description

The market for a Data Scientist position is continually growing. This is because the field is a broad one that many companies are involved in and hire for. A Data Scientist has the responsibility of taking a set of data and interpreting it correctly so that it may be used in a variety of performance-enhancing aspects, programs, hardware and other areas dictated by the company. The work that a Data Scientist does will often be used to either create artificial intelligence or to enable artificial intelligence to operate more efficiently when it comes to the processes under its control.

A Data Scientist is sometimes referred to as a big data engineer because there is a lot of overlap with that field. This is because both fields require high skills when it comes to general science, software engineering and programming/debugging software. It should be no surprise then that the duties handled by a Data Scientist often include creating various tools for machine learning within a company as well as ranking and sorting various datasets. Because of the sheer amount of data and numbers being handled, this position requires a strong background in statistical analysis. A Data Scientist must also be up-to-date when it comes to state-of-the-art methods revolving around data mining, be comfortable using third-party sources of information and be able to verify, process and format that data as necessary.
