Emcore Corporation has an immediate need for a Sr. Principal System Engineer for that is skilled in full life cycle development of Inertial Measurement Units and Navigation Systems preferably using Fiber Optic Gyroscope technology. The position will focus on understanding end-user needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, generate and document requirements, then lead/participate in completing the rest of the development lifecycle cycle from design through Requirements compliance testing. The position will include the System Electronic Design element of the Interface Control Document (ICD) which will require working with internal and customer Engineering staff. Throughout the cycle the position will utilize industry best practice for Systems Engineering and development processes with the goal of providing a quality product that will drive the engineering designs. Position will be an integral part of a diverse development team, including hardware design, software/firmware development and manufacturing. The System Engineering lead will be responsible for defining trade studies needed to generate and allocate requirements as well as error budgets. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED (SKILLS): • Bachelor's Degree; minimum 10 years' relevant experience • Experience with Military Avionic systems engineering process • Skilled in full life cycle development • Experience with System level Requirements generation and derivation of lower level requirements • Experience with System Interface Control Document (ICD) nomenclature and System Electronic Design • Prior experience designing electronic hardware for military or ruggedized products • Excellent verbal communication skills - must be able to communicate effectively in teleconferences with suppliers, clients and colleagues • Experience Leading Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts • Experience developing formal verification test plans • Requirements management experience using excel, DOORS or similar tool PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: • Experience in developing Inertial Measurement Units and/or Inertial Navigation Systems • Communications systems experience such as RS-422/485 (SDLC), TCP/IP (1588), CAN, ARINC, 1553, TTP, and AFDX • Experience with Systems Integration Lab (SIL) environments • Experience working with the Hardware Design Spec (HDS) • Experience leading and managing small engineering teams MINIMUM EDUCATION: • B.S. (or above) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or related field. PREFERRED EDUCATION: • M.S. (or above) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or related field.
