The Returnship program at Workday is a 16-week paid Returnship for experienced professionals returning to the workforce after taking time off for care-giving. The program is open to women and men who have at least 5 years of professional experience and have been out of the paid workforce for at least two years to focus on caring for a child or other dependent. As a Software Application Engineer at Workday, you will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle. During the analysis phase, you will work with functional experts to review and refine requirements for the product. During the design phase, you will take functional input and create a technical design that best implements these requirements. This will include creating a model of business objects and their relationships, which represents the functional domain as specified in the functional analysis. You will use UML modeling tools to create class diagrams, and all use cases will be validated against this class model. During the implementation phase, you will create all technical artifacts required to realize the system functionality. Finally, you will be responsible for the quality of the delivered product during the testing phase. This includes the creation of test cases for all business processes, the execution of test scripts, and the resolution of any problems identified by the test scripts.

Technical Degree or equivalent experience required.

Qualifications:

* Experience in designing/developing business applications.


* Experience working with Product Managers to turn complex business requirements into tasks.


* Collaborative team player with proven communication skills.


* Object-oriented design skills, and proficiency in Java, C#, or any other OO language.


* Proficient in Agile development methodologies.


* BS degree in a computer related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience or MS degree with 3 years of experience with web application development or SaaS (Software as a Service), experience emphasizing architecture and design.



Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with XML, REST API, and integration technologies is a nice-to-have.


* Having functional knowledge in Financial Accounting & Experience in Metadata-driven definitional development is a plus.


* A minimum 2 years of experience with unit testing tools like JUnit, other Test-Driven Development tools.


* A minimum of 1 year of UML Modeling.
