A Little About Us

Verizon Media is a global media and technology company with offices in over 27 countries. Our brands include Yahoo, AOL, HuffPost, Tumblr, TechCrunch and Engadget, with Yahoo! being number one in News, Sports and Finance. We're looking for an engineer to join us on the Publishing and Shared Tech team where we build the editorial tools that enable our brands to deliver engaging content to consumers across 175 countries.

A Little About The Job

You'll be on a distributed team which integrates with other teams across the company. You'll be working on our content ingestion and processing system, a core component of Verizon Media's editorial content management tools. Your typical day will involve collaboratively documenting task requirements, writing code and opening pull requests, getting on video conference calls to participate in team code reviews and informational meetings, and releasing shiny new features into production.

A Lot About You

As a software engineer at Verizon Media you will bring a willingness to learn and a desire to hone your craft. You'll strive to write code that is not only highly scalable, but is also easily maintainable and reusable. You'll be expected to jump into an existing codebase and start adding features and fixing bugs. You are a self starter but you should also be fearless in asking for help as well as providing feedback. You keep yourself up-to-date on the innovations in Internet software and technology.

We expect you to bring great written and verbal communication skills and we will provide the technology and resources to keep you connected to the rest of the team.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent


* Strong understanding of data structures, distributed systems, database concepts and security concepts of large scale applications


* Strong understanding of Design Patterns, Object Oriented Programming, Functional Programming and REST API development and/or integration


* Experience with Python or PHP


* Experience with MySQL, Unix, and Open Source Software


* Experience with Agile Development


* Experience with ticketing systems like JIRA


* Desire to work in a DevOps style environment



Nice to have:

Other skills or experience that will benefit you in this role:

* Working experience with Java


* Working experience working with automated testing


* Working experience with or understanding of cloud computing such as AWS


* Working experience with Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Deployment tools
