Hughes has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems and Automation Engineer. This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD. This group provides support to system improvements and automation for network management. System Modeling and development team does automation of network management procedures and will be responsible for developing the tools required to monitor and operate the system efficiently.

Responsibilities:

* Build applications to analyze the data generated by a big telecom network, measure the efficiency of the system and identify issues using the statistics modeling.
* Develop tools to for monitoring live networks and analyzes operational data to provide metrics on network usage, performance, and trends.
* Automate the Network configuration management with a goal of reducing repetitive manual labor and human error.
* Configure and deploy applications to get the required data for system's analysis
* Find and communicate "stories" told in the data

Basic Requirements:

* Bachelors' degree in Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Systems engineering or related technical field.
* 3+ years of experience in setting up of Professional monitoring dashboards using industry standards BI tools like SAP-WeBI, Microsoft BI etc
* 3+ years of experience in data organization and extraction relational databases like MySQL, Oracle, No SQL databases like MongoDB; Hadoop hive for data analysis.
* 3+ years of strong knowledge of development design patterns and Model-View-Controller.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Ability to setting up of applications using the cloud-based architecture GCP, and setting up of Streaming data application like Kafka queues in the cloud.
* Self-starter and should be able to develop new data models. Ability to work in an extremely dynamic and fast paced environment.
* Experience in working with Unix/Linux operating systems
* Experience in using tools/languages like Excel, R, Matlab, Python, Pandas, Shell Scripting.
* Experience in documentation tools like Wiki, LaTex
* Understanding of unit testing tools (e.g. Junit/Mockito, Selenium or Jasmine)
* Experience in working with big data technologies Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark for Data Analysis.
* Good understanding of statistics
