Job Description

eBay's analytics data ecosystem is one of the largest in the world. It houses transactional, behavioral and financial transactions for eBay's marketplaces globally. The environment includes technologies such as relational data warehousing and an extract-transform-load (ETL) platform, as well as multiple Hadoop clusters, specialized variants of Hadoop such as Presto and Spark, and new eBay-developed technologies such as the Kylin analytical engine. It provides data for machine learning systems and for analytical reporting. Extensions of these solutions are also deployed using real-time solutions based on streaming technologies, such as Kafka, Storm, Flink, while other parts of the solution are service based, utilizing mainstay service patterns, leveraging graph technologies underlying the service layer.

Candidate Profile

eBay is looking for a strong technical leader for their analytics data engineering team. The successful candidate will have experience implementing processes and services in analytics environments rather than just operating them.Exercising a bias for action coupled with a thoughtful architectural approach. S/he balances creativity and intuition with analytical rigor and agility, and demonstrates continuous process improvement and operational discipline. This leader is an idea generator, is a skilled relationship-builder, and has a strong sense of accountability and ownership. Finally, the successful candidate will be excited by the unique opportunity and scale that eBay presents in the data space, and be a change agent, which is managing with an eye towards the future state.

* Identifies, promotes talent. Builds team from scratch.
* Hires, retains and develops talent related to data & Software engineering.
* Provides leadership & direction to the engineering teams responsible for acquiring, integrating & presenting data, maintain data lakes with data from multiple properties.
* Provide direction, inputs and leadership to build of ETL tools & framework for Hadoop.
* Facilitate discussions, coordinate with multiple teams & provide clarity on design, solution & timelines.
* Mentor and coach team members for their personal & professional development.
* Participates and provides input in architectural discussions.
* Foresees the needs and acquires/develops tools needed for development & support.
* Establishes procedures & process for support.

Interactions:

Hadoop Team: Ongoing partnership with ADI team. The goal of the interactions is to build a platform where the relational processing from Teradata can be ported over to Hadoop with minimal possible friction. The scope of the discussions are around: Security, Capacity, Governance, Availability, Reliability, Scalability, and Feature development

Teradata Team: On going relationship with Teradata team on operational issues. The scope of the discussions are around:

Maintenance outages, RCA of platform failures, Capacity, Governance, and Features implementation

EDIT access for developers on UC4 production provides access to production data

ETL Infrastructure (DINT) team: Scope is around: Maintenance outage, Capacity, Feature development specifically related to ADPO.

MAP Team: Scope of discussions is around: Platform capabilities enhancements & fixes, Knowledge sharing, Upcoming platform changes awareness.

Discussions around advancement in the industry wrt Data.

Business Partners: Detailed discussions and involvement with the Risk & AML team on the build of the xID platform components to support the AML use cases.

Along with experience in leading diverse teams, you should have a good exposure and experience in Data Warehousing/ Data Integration & Engineering with experience in:

* Data Warehouse Operations
* End to End Development
* DW Tools Build.
* Efficient Dashboarding
* Batch vs NRT processing, its investment and ROI.
* Experience with handling of sourcing data from doc stores along with relational DBs.
* Data Modeling concepts.
* Data Security & Governance.

Additional Traits / Experience:

* Graduate degree in computer science or closely related field
* Very solid understanding of computer science and data processing and management fundamentals
* Deep understanding of relational databases and extract-transform-load (ETL/ELT/ETLT) patterns
* Experience with high-availability operations
* Familiarity with privacy and security controls in analytics environments, with a strong background in supporting subject area ownership and governance
