Microsoft News reaches hundreds of millions of active users a month in over 50 markets. We are responsible for some of the most used websites in the world including the Edge New Tab Page and msn.com. We work with partners inside and outside of Microsoft to integrate new experiences and drive business results. Our goal within Microsoft News is to create a best-in-class content experience that drives user engagement - we believe we can enable this with the right data foundational assets and enabling actionable insights.

The News Data Engineering team is responsible for growing and supporting an end-to-end data platform at scale. Through this platform, we enable various business units (from senior executives to external Content Partners) within and outside Microsoft News with actionable insights.

News data engineering team is looking for a passionate, creative, analytical and experienced Software Engineer -Data who has a proven record of successfully building and supporting data pipelines, BI, and data warehouse solutions to join us in our evolution, taking a leading role in designing, implementing and evolving innovative capabilities tailored to solving complex scenarios. In this role, you will also leverage Microsoft's latest BI and cloud technologies for delivering BI applications to drive analytics and insights

* BA/BS degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
* Capable of architecting big data and designing data pipelines on Microsoft's internal and external big data technology stack
* Has an obsession for tangible and demonstrable value
* Has strong user empathy with an obsession for clean and functional user experiences
* Experience in one or more high level languages (C#), data manipulation (SQL, Cosmos, Hadoop), BI Tools, and/or object oriented programming language Java, C++ or Python. Spark SQL will be a plus.
* Azure Databricks, Sparks and experience with big data technologies will be highly valuable.
* Experience in working on delivering data solutions using Agile Methodology
* Excellent problem solving, critical thinking skills, and communication skills
* Machine Learning, Data Science, and statistical modeling preferred
* Knowledge of Microsoft data assets/systems preferred

* Build functionality to align to data platform standards and best practices.
* Define a pragmatic solution architecture to deliver the vision and target value outcomes
* Articulate the solution architecture using visual storyboards that clearly illustrate the differentiated experiences and capabilities enabled by our automation and operations investments
* Thought leadership, creation, and execution on new platform capabilities
* Align all delivery functions/teams to the execution plan
* Manage the dependency chains in execution
* Proactively stay atop and mitigate all delivery risks and issues with no/minimal churn
