Job Description
Workday engineers transform requirements into working applications that ship to our customers at lightning speed. As a payroll engineer, you work closely with your product manager on payments related features such as payslips, payment elections, and check printing. You collaborate with your team following agile and test driven development practices. A key strength you possess is the awareness of how important your work is to our customers and to the lives of all the individuals who are paid through Workday.
For a Software Applications Engineer in Payroll, a typical day might include any of the following:
* Collaboration with your product manager and QA counterparts on solutions
* Technical analysis of customer reported issues
* Functional analysis of requirements to ensure successful solution
* Mapping requirements to existing class model
* Designing solutions and creating a project plan
* Coding
* Guiding other engineers through your solutions
* Conducting peer design and code reviews
* Devising and carrying out unit tests
Requirements:
* Mid to Senior or advanced level of object-oriented design and development experience in object-oriented languages such as Java, C#, Workday XpressO
* Enjoy fast-paced development environment
* Must be a collaborative team player with good oral and written communication skills
* Interact effectively with all stakeholders, including peers, Product Management and Quality Assurance
* Experience with UML, Web application development or SaaS (Software as a Service) technologies
* Experience with XML and Integration technologies is a plus.
* Metadata-driven definitional development experience is a plus.
* Experience designing/developing business applications - functional knowledge of Payroll is plus.
* Knowledge of Test Driven Development practices
* 4-year degree in a computer related field or equivalent
