About us

Coalition was founded by repeat entrepreneurs, Joshua Motta (Cloudflare) and John Hering (Lookout), with a mission to solve cyber risk. We believe that cyber risk is among the most pervasive risks facing society, and we've built the first holistic solution to it by combining free cyber security tools to help prevent loss, expert response to mitigate it, and up to $10M of insurance coverage to recover from it. Our technology platform encompasses insurance, threat intelligence, patch and vulnerability scanning, DDoS mitigation, ransomware protection, and more. Coalition's team of engineers, data scientists, security researchers, incident responders, and insurance personnel protect customers before, during, and after cyber incidents. Our insurance products are backed by Swiss Re, one of the world's largest (re)insurers, and Argo Group. Our customers are in every industry, and all across the US. We are based in San Francisco, although you'll find some of our team in more exotic places.

About the role

None of the above happens without easy-to-use applications and well-built interfaces, and we're looking for talented front-end engineers to bring these experiences to life.

This role comes with significant responsibility, and you will have the opportunity to lead the build out of web applications and help establish the right development patterns. You'll work closely with the backend engineering team to integrate existing REST APIs. Similarly, you'll work with the product design team to iterate over wireframes and high-fidelity mockups, turning prototypes into polished products. There is some flexibility in the role for full-stack work as well, depending on product priorities and experience.

Requirements

We are looking for experienced engineers with 5+ years of frontend engineering experience building software, launching products, and a solid base of computer science acumen. We don't expect you to be an expert in our entire stack, but we do expect the following:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent
* 5+ years of solid web development experience building and launching products using modern SPA front-end techniques
* Thorough understanding of web programming: expertise in HTML5/CSS/JS
* Thorough understanding of at least one JavaScript framework: React, Angular, etc.

Bonus Points

* Knowledge of other useful web technologies: Redux, Webpack, ES6, Flow, Jest, etc.
* Experience building user-facing products and working on UX/UI problems
* Experience building data visualizations with d3.js or a similar library
* Understanding of HTTP / REST security concepts, to include common vulnerabilities
* Understanding of cybersecurity domain: network protocols, risk mitigation, etc.
* Familiarity with Git workflow, and current backend choices: Flask, Python 3.6, Postgres

Location

We are a semi-distributed team, with the majority in San Francisco. We prefer that you be in San Francisco, but are open to candidates with a demonstrated ability to succeed remotely.
