The Role:

Fitbit's Visibility Engineering team provides the rare opportunity for engineers to build highly impactful tools and set standards that guide production decisions. The scope covers IoT devices, mobile and backend functionality. A service minded approach is the key to success as you foster a culture of responsibility within the team and across engineering. Visibility Engineering at Fitbit strives to provide the tools to help teams at Fitbit understand and debug their services through metrics, logging and alerting. You will work with teams across backend, mobile and device engineering to provide end to end visibility. As an engineering manager you will be managing a geographically distributed team of 4-8 people. You spend time mentoring your team, providing career guidance and helping your team members work with each other and the rest of engineering. You will work with your team's stakeholders to ensure we are delivering the highest value visibility services for Fitbit. You inspire your team to make our visibility platform a first class platform, build a long term vision and roadmap that meets the needs of the company today while building for the future. You have a track record for developing high performing teams delivering high quality products that are scalable and impactful. In addition you'll work with recruiting to identify and hire talented visibility engineers to grow the team. You'll encourage and seek out opportunities for your team evangelize the tools your team has built and seek out feedback to make them even better. You will have an impact across the entire engineering organization by making the success and failure of services quickly and easily visible.

Required

* BS in Computer Science or related, or equivalent work experience
* Have managed geographically dispersed teams and/or remote employees
* Managed vendor relationships in both cloud and non-cloud environments
* 4 years of professional experience in software/operations engineering management
* Aptitude for communication and collaboration
* Experience gathering requirements, planning and managing large projects and delivering solutions to meet them
* Collect and provide constructive input to team members, peers, management, and stakeholders

Nice-to-Have

* Experience growing teams in growing organizations
* Experience with Elastic Search, Logstash, Kibana (ELK)
* Experience with Prometheus
* Familiarity with Agile frameworks at scale

Working knowledge of performance considerations and resilience in implementations
