What is Lux at Airbnb?

The Lux team was created when Airbnb acquired Montreal-based Luxury Retreats in 2017. Our mission is to become the most recognized and trusted brand providing unparalleled world-class travel service. We have the unique opportunity to help people experience the most memorable and mind-blowing trips to the world's finest destinations. While still a fairly new team, we'll be aggressively growing this part of the business. We aim to increase both supply and bookings 10x over the next three years across both Airbnb and LuxuryRetreats.

What are Data Applications at Airbnb?

Data applications are critical to Airbnb's success, powering many aspects of our marketplace and supporting products. We are looking for software engineers who will build data applications to solve product problems. In this role, you'll partner closely with our data scientists and application engineers to create the technology that generates and transforms data into applications, insights and experiences for our users.

In this role you will:

* Build scalable and high performance data pipelines on top of Hive and Spark to drive the following Guest Growth initiatives:
* Search ranking
* Search autocomplete
* SEO
* Paid growth
* Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists and data infra teams to identify new growth opportunities through data-powered product experiences.
* Design data models for optimal storage and retrieval, and optimize the data architecture to meet critical analytics and business reporting needs.
* Improve data quality and through anomaly detection by building and working with internal tools to measure data and automatically detect changes.

Minimum Requirements:

* 5+ years of relevant industry experience
* Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience
* Experience designing and building out mission critical data pipelines to power online product experiences and offline business reporting. Experience with Airflow is a plus.
* Expertise in SQL based data processing tools like hive and spark.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets to identify gaps and inconsistencies, provide data insights, and advance effective product solutions
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
