Leads the performance of system administration of specialized CND applications and systems to include installation,configuration, maintenance, patching, and back-up/restore. Develops solutions to implement Defense in Depth principles and practices. Identifies potential conflicts with implementation of any CND tools within the enterprise and develop recommendations to remediate these conflicts. Supports enterprise mitigation efforts based on the specific monitoring and filtering capabilities of existing network defense infrastructure. Performs life-cycle configuration management of applications, signatures, rules, filters and configurations of managed network defenses systems. Provides subject matter expertise in creation, editing, and management of signatures, rules and filters for specialized network defense systems including but not limited to network and host-based IDS, IPS, firewall, web application firewall, proxy and SIEM systems. Develops and documents security engineering guidance, processes, and procedures. Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects. Provides solutions to a variety of complex technical problems. Plans and conducts assignments, generally involving the larger and more important projects or more than one project. May be considered a Lead.

Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Cyber Defense / Systems Administrator- Linux Specialist to join our team in the Herndon, VA area to provide unparalleled support to our customer and to begin an exciting and rewarding career within ManTech.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Ability to install, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Linux operating system installs. Should include Redhat flavors (primarily CENTOS) and some Debian (ex. Ubuntu). This will include resolving Nessus identified compliance and vulnerability issues (typically configuration changes and software updates).

Ability and understanding of general Linux OS O&M. This includes: patching (Yum/Apt); Kernel updates; drive space and inode management; integration with LDAP, Active Directory or similar; performing systems backups and restoration; integration with centralized logging (remote syslog).

Ability to install, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Linux services and applications. This should include running things as services with its own user account (non-root), an understanding of automated process running and chrooting services.

Users should be familiar with at least SSH, SFTP, FTP.

Ability to automate most O&M tasks including automate patching, automate software installs, automate log management , scripting in bash and python, use of cron and other automation tools.

Candidate should be comfortable enough with Linux that they can provide O&M services in 5%-15% of their time with the rest focused on support to the innovation team.

Position Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in MIS, Computer Science or related field or equivalent technical/vocational certification or experience

Candidates core competence shall be in Systems Engineering/Administration

Candidates secondary competence shall be in Network Engineering/Administration

Five or more years of systems design, engineering, and administrative experience

Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in stabilizing and standardizing Linux systems and infrastructures.
