Job Description

The Vice President Frameworks & Global Engineering reports to the Vice President Engineering Services and is responsible for leading a dynamic team of product managers and engineers. You will be responsible for extending the core frameworks and delivering a new generation frameworks and services, built using the most modern technologies and development methodologies and enabling Workday to be used globally. At Workday, configurability has been a core design principle since day one. This configurability is a significant differentiator, allowing Workday customers to experience a significant reduction in total cost of ownership over our competitors.

The Enterprise Frameworks and Global Engineering team is at the center of this configuration capability. We design and construct layered software components that are embedded within Workday applications and extended as required. This team is responsible for the common components used by many of the application products as well as ensuring that Workday adheres to global best practices; creating innovative ways to improve global functionality and create inclusive experiences.

As the leader, this individual will lead a highly skilled team and instill diligence, accuracy, and a sense of urgency and efficiency when meeting the operational needs of the business at large. They will also work cross-functionality with other Workday departments, acting as the central voice for the function, and will align procurement efforts with the company goals and initiatives - proactively identifying challenges and providing cross-functional solutions. The position is located in Pleasanton, CA.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

* Work across pillars to prioritize roadmap, ensuring highest business value is achieved.
* Scoping and design of new products and features for desktop, mobile and other form factors and experiences.
* Ensure a customer-first platform mentality throughout the organization.
* Scheduling and estimation of software project tasks.
* Deliver product features with quality, performance and within deadlines.
* Comprehensive internal documentation of designs and product components.
* Resolution of defects in response to escalated support issues.
* Experience combining components and services authored by multiple parties, across multiple versions, securely and reliably.
* Candidates must be passionate about innovative software development, motivated to work on central impactful components, eager to learn about new technologies, and have proven ability to deliver quality software.
* Recruit, motivate, develop and retain talent into function.
* Identify areas for strategic improvement to the systems, processes, policies and procedures.
* Serve as an Executive Sponsor and key stakeholder on critical projects.
* Contribute to the strategic direction of the organization through leading and participating on internal initiatives.

* POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Vice President Frameworks and Engineering will be a seasoned executive with tremendous drive, intelligence and capability. He/she will be highly motivated and have the ability and desire to have real impact across the organization. The successful candidate will be a multi-dimensional thinker who operates using important past experiences, as well as taking into consideration new approaches and developments that occur in the market. He/she will have demonstrated an ability to build effective teams and consistently drive profitable results in high growth/entrepreneurial environments, including a proven track record of building organizations.

Skills & Experience:


* Experience developing software using all aspects of OO design and construction with an emphasis on reusable or platform based functionality design and delivery.
* Experience developing metadata based enterprise applications.
* An understanding of one or more business domains relevant to Workday systems.
* Knowledge of agile development processes.
* Proven ability to deliver complex systems using web, service and MVC standards and patterns.
* Collaborative team player with strong work ethics, good oral and written communication skills.
* Successful experience working closely with transformational leadership teams in both technology development and product development.
* Considerable knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, capital planning cycles and business office operations.
* Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management.
* Experience with developing and implementing successful cost saving initiatives.
* Proven experience in planning, organization, and development.
* Excellent understanding of project management principles.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build and deliver powerful presentations.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
