Job Description

Would you like to be one of the leaders of a team that is solving new business challenges through innovative technology?

The Team

The Amazon Point-of-Sale (POS) team is responsible for building the associate and customer experience at Point of Sale Terminals for all Amazon physical retail stores. We started off with Amazon Books, a brick-and-mortar store that offers a curated selection of books, and merchandise such as Amazon devices. These stores provide a magical experience that combines the best parts of a neighborhood bookstore with Amazon.com's low prices and the expertise of passionate, knowledgeable staff who tailor their approach to the unique needs of each customer and use our systems to do so. We are getting ready to launch new products that will amaze and define how customers interact with us in a brick and mortar setting.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to build a new team which will extend the Point-of-Sale experience to different physical retail store formats. As the leader and a founding member of this new team, you will be responsible for building the team, helping craft a vision, building a roadmap, and delivering. Additionally, you will have significant influence on our overall strategy, drive system architecture, and spearhead best practices for your team.

In this role, a commitment to team work, hustle, and strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners) are absolute requirements. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about building good software as well as making that software achieve its operational goals.

You will take on challenging, novel situations every single day and given the size of this space, you'll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that's higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that, frankly, haven't been solved at scale before - anywhere in the world. While we use existing Amazon systems when possible, you'll be working on interesting problems that most likely have no off-the-shelf solutions. Along the way, we guarantee that you'll learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.
