Azure Networking designs and builds the critical network infrastructure that Microsoft relies on. We automate the management of hundreds of thousands of network devices connecting millions of servers to the Internet. The impact of your work on the world is enormous.

We're looking for a leader to take Microsoft Azure's network management platform to the next level. You will solve hyperscale distributed systems problems. You will write software that is aware of network safety and fault domains.

We're also starting to mine vast amounts of networking data to make better predictions and decisions. You'll have the opportunity to master machine learning techniques and advance the state of the art.

The immediate team you're joining is small (a dozen people) and operates as a startup within the bigger corporation. You'll have the potential for tremendous career growth. You'll mentor junior software engineers on design and coding practices. You'll have the opportunity to present papers at tech conferences, file patents and otherwise showcase innovations you and the team build.

Required:

* At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
* Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science or related discipline.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Desired:

* Proven experience shipping large scale software services.
* Expertise in designing distributed systems and concurrent programming.
* Several years of professional experience writing object-oriented code in at least one of the following languages: Python, C#, C++, Java, Go.
* Experience with Redis or other distributed storage technologies.
* Knowledge of machine learning is a plus.
* Outstanding collaboration and communication skills.
