The Insight team is a small, dynamic team building a suite of next-generation analytics products. We build tools offering customers unique visibility into their IT infrastructure. Meraki Insight utilizes the data already flowing through the Meraki network in order to supply customers with a powerful and intuitive understanding of their mission-critical systems. Our engineers excel at manipulating complex data sets into clear visualizations, and have crafted the easiest to deploy and easiest to use Network Performance Management tool on the market. Meraki Insight customers include some of the world's largest and most prominent retailers, banks, and hospitals.

As a senior firmware features engineer with Meraki Insight, you will be responsible for the firmware that is our first contact point with network data. You will identify the key metrics we need to guarantee optimal performance within our customer networks, and devise systems to collect these data at massive scale. You will develop both passive and active network monitoring services within embedded systems spanning from small teleworker gateways to top-of-the-line enterprise edge devices. You will collaborate with industry-leading engineers and researchers on Meraki's network security and wireless performance teams.

At Meraki, we are passionate about building real products that our customers love. We believe in fostering a positive culture by hiring, mentoring, and coaching creative, helpful, humble people. We work organically through small teams that self-organize both laterally and vertically. With the backing of supportive management, we are constantly looking for ways to improve organizationally through introspection. Our positive relationship with Cisco provides the stability and resources of a larger company, while enabling us to maintain our flexible startup vibe.

You might work on:

* Crafting an embedded containerization framework, which you will use to rapidly deploy new analysis features, together with zero-day security updates
* Developing an automated uplink capacity measurement tool that can run without interrupting fragile Internet voice and video streams
* Creating and implementing an embedded machine learning model to distinguish between traffic types within encrypted tunnels
* Architecting a system to automatically route networked application traffic via the highest performance Internet route
* Building automated layer 4 and layer 7 active performance-analysis probes, using embedded headless browsers and media servers

You are ideal for this job if:

* You have 4+ years professional experience programming in C or C++
* You have close familiarity with networking protocols (IP, ICMP, UDP, TCP, TLS, HTTP, RTP, etc.) and common networking connectivity and performance issues
* You have experience with Linux systems, and believe in the Unix way: you build complex systems out of simple components that each do one job-and do it well
* You possess a focused, organized approach to development, testing, and quality
* You hold excellent communication and presentation skills
* You independently pursue self-started projects, and hold a passion for the science in computer science

Bonus points for:

* A BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related STEM field
* Experience in development or performance measurement of network protocols
* A history with embedded systems development concepts, including cross-platform development and build tools (GNU toolchain, OpenWRT, buildroot, Yocto)
* Projects applying machine learning within embedded environments
