Job Description:

* Supports Pharmacovigilance & Epidemiology (PVE) need for analytics, line listings, summary tabulations, visualizations, and dashboards by using Cognos.
* Contributes to the full life cycle of safety data analytical activities - data query, report authoring, report validation, report publishing, and report generation.
* Develop and maintain standard reports library used for periodic and aggregate reporting.
* Responsible for routine generation of periodic report outputs (such as PBRER and DSUR) adhering to strict timelines and quality constraints.
* With limited guidance, may lead a small team in the development and maintenance of business applications.
* Provide direction to junior staff using established policies and standard methodologies
* During system implementation and change management, may support, test, and refine application configurations to align with business process needs
* Produce detailed design documents to match business requirements
* Coordinate infrastructure requirements with IT peers
* Works with business and IT partners to enhance standard reports to reduce run time or improve efficiency
* Prepares program-level and user-level documentation
* Assists with definition of overall system architecture and software configuration management, introduction and training
* Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates multiple work activities to meet project deadlines; Identifies and documents business processes for assigned work activities
* Work directly with business end users to probe and ask effective questions to fully diagnose both the problem root cause and customer's comfort level with standard reports
* Assess more complex problems including those escalated by junior staff

Knowledge Requirements:

* Extensive understanding and application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in relational databases and reporting tools (Cognos Report Studio or Business Objects required)
* May provide on-the-job guidance to others
* Pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred, especially working with Research and Development/R&D/Development Operations functions (Pharmacovigilance, Biometrics, Clinical Operations, Clinical Data Management)
* Conversant with and understands current Pharmacovigilance regulations is preferred
* Experience working with validated/qualified applications is preferred

Problem Solving:

* Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are innovative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.



Minimum Qualifications:

* BA/BS with 5+ years of Cognos report development (or relevant business intelligence reporting tool experience)
* MS/MBA with 3+ years of Cognos report development (or relevant business intelligence reporting tool experience)
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Must be proficient in written and verbal communication
* Works as an independent contributor as well as a team player
