Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) leverages Amazon's global fulfillment and customer service network for third party sellers who want to grow their business on and off Amazon.com. FBA enables customers to take advantage of Free Super Saver Shipping and Amazon Prime on third party items, while sellers can focus on selling rather than shipping. In essence, third party sellers send their inventory to Amazon and Amazon stores, ships, and handles customer support. Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO, continues to highlight the importance of FBA in his annual letter to shareholders, "A related investment - a major, multi-year one - is Fulfillment by Amazon. FBA gives third-party sellers the option of warehousing their inventory alongside ours in our fulfillment center network. The Principal Software Development Engineer role provides technical leadership across the 12+ technical teams within FBA. This requires an innovative self-starter with extensive experience in highly distributed systems who can provide both technical guidance and vision. You will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative seller-facing solutions. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. You will drive the evolution of the product roadmap and work on translating that vision into implementation designed for simplicity and scale.

Responsibilities:

* Lead projects that have a major impact on both the software engineering team as well as the overall FBA business
* Design and implement major software systems in a highly distributed and transactional environment
* Provide technical leadership in evaluating, understanding and integrating varied software solutions.
* Responsible for software architecture including determination of current limitations and compatibilities between subsystems, selection of new concepts and methodology, and development of major routines and utilities.
* Preparation of technical requirements, software designs specifications and other forms of architectural documentation.
* Provide technical mentorship to the engineers in our organization.
* Deliver high quality work on tight schedules.
