Job Description

One of the core missions of the Identity division at Microsoft is to make it easier to build secure cloud applications. Almost every cloud application must handle two identity-related functions: signing users in, and deciding what a user is allowed to do. These functions are called authentication and authorization. Microsoft runs one of the world's largest authentication systems in Azure Active Directory, powering sign-in for millions of organizations around the world. Now, we are ready to break into the authorization space. The Identity division is looking for an Engineering manager to define and deliver a new cloud-based Role Based Access Control (RBAC) platform service for developers. The role has two initial responsibilities. First, take the proven and familiar RBAC system underpinning the Azure portal and Azure Resource Manager API and offer it as a general purpose, extensible RBAC platform for cloud developers. Second, take the concepts of this RBAC system and use them to build a central service which provides a holistic view of RBAC across all of the workloads in Microsoft 365. In these two projects we have a significant opportunity to increase developer productivity, increase IT pro productivity, and improve cloud operational security.

Basic

* 7+ years of industry experience developing commercial software application or services
* 3+ years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

* Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline
* Working experience in online services/large scale systems is a plus
* Working knowledge of a modern programming language, C# preferred, but C/C++/Java acceptable.
* Track record of delivering innovation and results, leadership and collaboration

Your core responsibilities include leading a team of engineers to deliver the next set of features and optimizations in the Authorization service. You would have opportunities to deliver significant customer and business impact, lead the team in an agile way, and be hands on with technical problems. You would collaborate with teams across Identity division and Microsoft to achieve common goals and to drive impact across the entire Microsoft cloud, as authentication and identity are core to Azure and Office 365.
