Job Description

Today, Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. The AWS Cloud infrastructure is built around Regions and Availability Zones (AZs). AWS Regions provide multiple, physically separated and isolated Availability Zones which are connected with low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant networking. These Availability Zones offer AWS customers an easier and more effective way to design and operate applications and databases, making them more highly available, fault tolerant, and scalable than traditional single datacenter infrastructures or multi-datacenter infrastructures. How would you like to come be part of the team that builds out that low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant network?

Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated Network Infrastructure Operations Manager to help manage and operate one of the world's largest and most complex networks. We develop new and innovative ways to scale and expand our network, while delivering operational excellence to our stakeholders. This opportunity sits within our Transport Solutions organization where the team is responsible for developing and acquiring the network that drives Amazon's internal infrastructure as well as connecting Amazon to the outside world. The Network Infrastructure Operations Manager will have deep market knowledge in telecoms; experienced with supplier management, network operations and network implementation methods. This role requires collaboration, driving tactical and strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, with the goal of improving our network's overall availability. By applying a unique blend of operations and technology experience, you will work closely with both outside parties and internal teams to find creative, cost effective, and innovative ways to limit network events and increase network performance.

As the Network Infrastructure Operations Manager for Transport Services, you will play an important role in limiting and mitigating the volume of network events on our backbone and metro networks in close coordination with other team members. You will play a pivotal role in leading activities such as incident management, vendor QBRs, SRLG audits, technical debt resolution, service improvement plans, maintenance notification management (only service affecting) and root cause analysis management. You will set the operational direction for the team, drive initiatives around how best to manage the network and ensure operational continuity thought the regions through multiple business developers responsible for each region. This person would liaise with networking, capacity planning, data science and operations to set a global operational strategy and plan. The ideal candidate will be excited about the incredible opportunity cloud computing represents and will be passionate about building great teams that deliver high quality services. You will be customer centric and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that requires strong technical and business judgment and great communication skills.

Key Responsibilities Include:

* Creation of operational troubleshooting methods and procedures for lit and dark fiber.
* Act as an escalation contact for internal customers and suppliers during a network incident.
* Prepare and lead Quarterly Business Reviews with key suppliers.
* Management of service affecting maintenance notifications.
* Lead initiatives and work closely with teams across the organization, including, network operations, global expansion, services product management, data center operations, supply chain, procurement, and capacity management.
* Work with the technical business developers to manage our vendor relationships and adherence to the contracted services.
* Work with peers to understand critical gaps in network faults and rapid resolution of network faults.
* Work to implement and track those processes in our partner organizations. Create data reporting and continuous improvement mechanisms to track the quality of our vendor's network performance.
* Anticipate bottlenecks, manage risk and escalations, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.
