We want to optimize operational support for multiple large scale distributed systems from 50+ groups in one of the larger development organizations at Amazon. Overview

Amazon operates the largest e-commerce platform in the world and this requires massive investments in computer infrastructure, utilizing cutting-edge software engineering practices, and around the clock support from engineering staff. Our organization includes well known Amazon features such as Customer Reviews/Ratings, Social features, Lists, Gifting. Teams in this organization handle the creation of all product pages and visible and critical features such as the Amazon Gateway. Other teams include Personalization which improves customer experience based on behavior using Machine Learning Algorithms that run on massive amounts of distributed data, Consumer Marketing which uses targeted Advertising using data aggregation, data mining and Mobile Shopping, which has to deliver high quality applications across multiple mobile platforms.

The Consumer Engagement Engineering Excellence (CE3) team has been setup recently with a mission to increase Engineering Excellence by providing visibility into the health of an organization, partner with global diversified teams to improve the overall efficiency by reducing infrastructure & operational cost, remove manual repetitive work across teams with ATF (automation, tools & frameworks) and reduce overall risk of running a service in production.

Opportunity

We're looking for Sr. Technical Program Manager, who can lead building a first-tier support organization for various teams that operate large mission critical services in production. You will work with partner teams to support, automate and improve processes. You will be working with sister teams across different geographical locations to provide 24x7 "follow the sun" model to our partner teams. You will have the opportunity to learn how Amazon Retail systems scales using key AWS technologies like EC2, S3, DynamoDB, RedShift, Lambda. You will have opportunity to learn tools and systems across different teams, come up with frameworks which could impact multiple teams. You will find, document and evangelize best practices from one team to other teams across entire organization.

The successful candidate will be a strong, experienced technical program manager who will build systems and tools to support our efficiency program and drive continuous technology improvements across the company. This energetic candidate will help us "get better together" by instilling engineering efficiencies through educating and rewarding teams on how to incorporate best practices into their daily work. Working alongside with peers and technologists across the company, you will partner to deep dive and understand what's hard about operating efficiently in Amazon's unique environment. The systems you build will influence the operations of hundreds of teams and thousands of services.

Responsibilities

* Work closely with partner teams to understand their business, architecture, process and analyze operational pain points.
* Co-ordinate multiple support teams across different geographical locations to provide 24x7 "follow the sun" model to our partner teams.
* Provide technical leadership and direction to team of developers and support engineers.
* Come up with innovative common technical solutions to remove manual repetitive tasks across teams.
* Lead regular operational reviews with partner teams and executives.
* Knowledge Sharing across teams on best practices and setup processes that raises the bar on engineering excellence.
