Job Description

The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Web Content Coordinator who will report to the Outreach & BrainFacts.org Manager. The Coordinator will play a key role in balancing responsibilities of both the editorial and web outreach efforts of BrainFacts.org. They will serve as a critical contributor to help increase the multimedia and interactive content on the site, in addition to assisting with social media promotion and web maintenance. The Coordinator will need to have strong storyboarding skills, technically savvy, and enjoy bringing complex topics to a general audience. This role will work with multiple departments within the Society and ensure close collaboration with content contributors. This role is ideal for a candidate who is looking to take the next step in their career.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Shepherd multimedia development for BrainFacts.org from an editorial perspective, liaising with the digital project managers and Digital Learning and Multimedia staff where appropriate. Portfolio will include storyboarding, shepherding multimedia through scientific review, and ensuring a robust user experience during both the technical and design stages.
* Participate in BrainFacts.org social media efforts by managing the production of new lightweight visual content and interactives that are successfully employed on the website in part by using simple, low-cost software such as ThingLink, Canva, and Lumen5.
* Work with NLB team to robustly engage the BrainFacts.org audience on social media channels based on trending topics, creating engaging illustrations and GIFs.
* Provide copywriting input to help shape storyboarding, user experience, and narrative.
* Contribute to the new podcast strategic initiative for BrainFacts.org by aiding in narrative development, promotion, and distribution via multiple digital channels.
* Engage in an independent audience analysis to feed into a user experience and user engagement strategy that will inform content and site development over the next several years.
* Work with Content Manager, Managing Director, and EiC of BrainFacts to aid in production of 50 "brain facts" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SfN.
* Assist with efforts to enhance the storytelling and educational capacity of the 3D brain on the BrainFacts.org site.
* Contribute to consistent efforts to keep the site 'fresh' with resurfaced and refreshed content in a multimedia or interactive format based on current trends in society and across the neuroscience field.
* Enhance resources for educators on BrainFacts.org by helping to create more lightweight interactive educator content.
* Manage the inventory of multimedia assets for BrainFacts.org including resizing and purchase of photos and uploading of all multimedia to the appropriate locations including SiteCore, SoundCloud, and YouTube.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree required. Degrees in communications, science, science writing, journalism, or related field preferred.
* 2 years of relevant experience.
* Experience in content creation and storyboarding required.
* Proficient in post-production workflows, video and audio editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Logic and Pro Tools, media management & archiving, media encoding, various codecs and file exporting.
* Experience with ThingLink, Canva, Lumen5 or similar preferred.

* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong competency for pre and post-production workflows.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to build bridges amongst departments.
* Ability to use good judgement and to be diplomatic with sensitive situations.
