Introduction

Your Role and Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Senior Database Developer is responsible for performing database development tasks to assure loading, reporting, availability for a large-scale Data Warehouse / Decision Support Systems. Duties include database development support, research, process automation, documentation, and support of database deployments.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform all Database Development duties

* Participate in support of all development activities
* Participate in team and meetings as well project team meetings
* Work closely with IBM Watson Health data warehouse team (project lead, data modelers, technical team, ETL developers, Cognos Developers)
* Ensure compliance with all technical specifications
* Ensure that department documentation is up to date and accurate
* Assure the database code is written for working with Very Large Databases
* Research and recommend database development best practices
* Plan and manage project tasks, schedules, and resources related to database development
* Communicate with the customer through formal correspondence
* Mentor less experienced database developers and perform developer peer review
* Diagnose and solve complex problems including non-functional problems such as performance issues by identifying workarounds, and driving resolution / "owning" the problem

Required Professional and Technical Expertise

* 5 + years working with large Oracle data warehouses
* 5 + years writing pl/sql and sql code
* Experience in transforming large data in a data warehouse
* Experience with Inmon and/or Kimball data modeling approaches
* Strong query tuning and performance problem-solving skills
* Strong SQL DDL, DML, and SQL Procedural Language (PLSQL) coding skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Self-starter with ability to work in a team environment
* Technical Mentor/Leader on the project
* Experience writing software design technical specifications
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks simultaneously and complete work within allocated time-frames

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise

* Previous experience working with healthcare databases or working with healthcare data and regulations
* Recent experience with Oracle 12c
* Experience with Data Warehouse Data Vault 2.0
* Experience with IBM UDB/DB2 Data Warehouse
* Experience working with Oracle Exadata
* Experience with Informatica
* Experience with Data Stage
* Experience with Cognos
* Experience with Tableau
