Job Description

The American Library Association (ALA), a large, information-based professional organization seeks a User Experience Manager.

The User Experience Manager will provide oversight of the user-experience (UX) of the ALA websites and digital properties to help ensure there is a consistent, streamlined user experience for ALA's members and constituents among the various public facing platforms. This position is to understand and provide guidance as to how the various public facing digital properties interact in a holistic manner within the ALA brand. Responsibilities also include conceiving and conducting user research, interviews and surveys, analysis of website analytics and translating them into recommended improvements.

This position is also responsible for the direct support and management for ALA's online community platform (ALA Connect). This platform is used by ALA and its Divisions to manage committee volunteer work, provide networking opportunities, and association engagement and collaboration for our members and potential members. This position will work closely with the ALA Office of Member Relations (AOMR) Community Engagement Manager to provide oversight of the user-experience (UX) for the Online Community platform.

Excellent communication and people skills are required. The UX Manager must be flexible and able to incorporate user-centered design principles to online interfaces while remaining responsive and open to the diverse and shifting needs of a complex organization. The ability to work in a team environment and between two universes of Information Technology and Librarianship is essential in order to maintain an outcome-oriented, global vision.

Salary: negotiable from the high 90s, based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and a retirement annuity.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum of seven years' experience in overseeing user-centric design throughout multiple digital properties. Must have knowledge of web site design, web-based usability standards, web-based accessibility standards and industry-acknowledged best practices.
