Job Description

Position Summary:

The successful candidate for this engineering position will be a member of a core team focused on the design and 3rd level support of Chubb's UNIX, storage, and backup and recovery systems.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

* Provide 3rd level support for: UNIX systems including hardware and systems software; storage systems; Spectrum Protect (formerly TSM)


* Provide technical leadership, and hands-on resolution to critical and severity-1 problems (this includes business and non-business hours)


* Continually review and enhance systems monitoring and alerting


* Partner with PMO and technical teams on project execution


* Partner with application and infrastructure teams to identify platform requirements


* Develop solutions that meet business requirements, and execute the deployment


* Ensure new technology is introduced and deployed on plan and on budget; remain accountable for technology introduction, and proper turnover including documentation for administrators and operations


* Identify opportunities to maximize the efficiency of the existing platforms or identify platform alternatives, and opportunities to reduce costs


* Provide hands-on oversight of our disaster recovery solutions ensuring there are no gaps

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:


* Five years (or equivalent knowledge) of hands on technical UNIX support including performance tuning; AIX, Solaris, SLES, and RHEL preferred


* Five years (or equivalent knowledge) of hands on support of enterprise storage arrays; XIV, XtremIO, V7000, Isilon, NetApp preferred


* Hands-on knowledge of IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager) preferred


* Hands-on knowledge of Spectrum Scale (formerly General Parallel File System), including performance tuning


* Hands-on experience with vSphere and vCenter


* Hands-on experience with Oracle's SuperCluster is a plus


* Competent in scripting (Bash, Perl, Python)


* Good understanding of Networking concepts


* Excellent problem determination skills, and the ability to debug complex-cross systems problems, and document root cause including remediation and detection


* Ability to work independently and on a team with colleagues across the globe


* Excellent written and verbal communication skills


* Self-driven with the ability to manage workload without direct supervision
