Job Description

RSG seeks a travel demand modeling intern for its Chicago, Illinois office.

AS A TRAVEL MODELING INTERN

Your work involves a wide range of transportation modeling activities, including network coding, preparing databases (including GIS databases), running travel models and reviewing results, applying passively collected big travel data, and reviewing CAV (Connected and Autonomous Vehicle) scenarios.

You have good technical judgement and are a resourceful, clear, and creative thinker. You are amiable and have strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills that enable you to manage your tasks on time and communicate effectively with your manager and colleagues.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Current enrollment and completion of Junior year in a technical field such as engineering, computer science, or planning
* Scripting experience with Python (pandas, numpy), R, VB, GISDK, or similar
* Ability to learn one or more transportation modeling packages such as Cube, EMME, TransCAD, or VISUM
* Understanding of database and statistical software (e.g. SQL, SAS, R, Python)
* Desire and ability to learn and understand new data science technologies
* Strong verbal and technical writing abilities

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelors degree or higher in a technical field, such as engineering, computer science, geography, or planning
* 1+ years experience in transportation and/or land use models, data science, or a related field
* Experience with one or more transportation modeling packages (Cube, EMME, TransCAD, and/or VISUM)
* Strong scripting experience with Python (pandas, numpy), R, VB, GISDK or similar
* Proficiency in scientific computer programming with Java, C++, Python, R, C#/.Net, JavaScript, or similar
* Experience with software development tools such as GitHub, version control, issue tracking, testing, etc.
* Demonstrated ability to work virtually with geographically dispersed teammates
