Job Description

Newsy is currently hiring for a Technology Support Technician in our Chicago offices. This position will be the key person responsible for supporting all end-user technology in use within the operation. This includes a variety of software, workstations (laptops, tablets, etc.), printers, VoIP phones, servers and production equipment as required. Providing advanced troubleshooting, configuration, and installation of various desktop software applications, Windows and Apple products, computer hardware configurations, networking and communications needs.

Key Activities

* Document hardware/software install procedures, upgrades, and incidents through the Scripps service desk and other documentation methods.
* Respond to requests for assistance at user workstations, servers, production equipment and provide support to onsite and offsite personnel.
* Perform advanced issue recognition, research, isolation, resolution and follow up for escalated issues referring to more complex problems/desktop standard modifications.
* Evaluate requests for new off the shelf software applications and upgrades, as well as competing products for deployment, compatibility, support and cost working through appropriate management channels.
* Act as a lead technician to coordinate desktop software configuration changes and act as primary resolution agent for issues related to desktop software and operating system upgrades, service packs, security patches, and other related changes.
* Properly package/repackage both custom and vendor supplied applications for deployment on standard Windows & Apple platforms using specific
* Responsible for complete software packaging life cycle: initial problem research and discovery, testing, deployment, support, documentation and build notes.
* Perform other duties as needed or directed.

Education & Experience/Certifications

* Associates Degree in related field preferred, or equivalent experience
* Microsoft & Apple system administration and troubleshooting skills, including deep knowledge of registry, file systems, processes, and security; knowledge of creating installing/packaging scripts and creating packages and transforms.
* Software management through manual tracking methods or other packaging/deployment software, Windows XP, Mac OS.X, Symantec, Microsoft Office O365, Google Enterprise, and various Cloud based productivity solutions (Slack as an example and/or Adobe products)
* Microsoft Certified Professional in Office preferred, CompTIA A+, Network+, and/or Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician preferred.
* Other equivalent certifications will be considered.

Skills & Abilities

* Must have excellent analytical, problem solving skills with the ability to research and create viable solutions.
* Must be able to test and implement solutions under tight time restraints, have excellent time management skills and be able to work will independently as well as a member of a team, demonstrated leadership skills a plus.
* Should be self-motivated, flexible, and eager to constantly learn/expand skill set.
* Willing to work in early a.m. and late p.m. shifts.

Work Environment

* The work hours will be 4:30am - 12:30pm M-F to support the early morning staff that works on the 6am show.
* Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.
* Occasional travel, overtime may be required.
