POSITION: Technology Assistant-Help Desk (RMHS) 40 hrs/wk Grade 5 Effective: August 12, 2019

ASSIGNMENT: 10 Month

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This position involves overseeing building technology systems; assisting the Technology Systems Supervisor in troubleshooting, maintaining hardware and software inventory, and related tasks. There is considerable contact with staff and students. The Technology Assistant will provide help desk service to staff and students in the routine maintenance of computer hardware and software, network infrastructure, telephones, and other technology systems. May supervise and assist students under the direction of certified staff and perform related clerical tasks. Organizational skills, initiative, independent judgment, as well as courtesy and tact are essential to this position as well as continually learn new technologies, products and applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must have or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional designation in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education requirements. Those currently employed as Technology Assistan/Media will have one (1) year to meet the NCLB requirements.
* Must have knowledge of computer operating systems.
* Must move around frequently within the building as well as access all electrical/computer connections.
* Must possess high mechanical/technical aptitude, troubleshooting and problem solving skills and perform software upgrades and maintenance.
* Must lift/move computers and other equipment (up to 50 lbs.) as needed.
* Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills and verbally communicate clearly and distinctly with staff and students.
* Must project a positive image of the district to the staff and students as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

1. Supports the overall technology operation of the school including computer labs and classrooms by:

* installing and upgrading various types of equipment software
* maintaining a technology help desk for the school
* updating and maintaining the electronic bulletin board for daily video announcements
* acquiring and distributing multi-media materials
* performing equipment maintenance
* assisting students and staff with hardware and/or software
* preparing and distributing computers at the school
* troubleshooting hardware/software problems
* maintaining records of computer lab utilization and equipment repairs
* assisting in implementation of networking procedures
* maintaining supplies and hardware/software inventories
* recognizing system incompatibilities and application errors

2. Assists certified staff by:

* providing individualized or group instruction in the use of technology
* supervising students

3. Continues job performance enhancement by updating knowledge and skills in the use of technology as well as participating in appropriate professional growth activities.
